The Cancer of PC Will Keep the Texas Rangers Down in 2013

Never in the history of baseball has a team been alone in first place for more days (178/182) and NOT won the Division, as the 2012 Texas Rangers just did.  The Rangers were up 5 games with 9 games to play and went from first to worst finishing their last ten games with a 2-8 record.

Less than a year ago, the Rangers became the ONLY World Series team in history to be within ONE strike of winning the WS, not once but TWICE and lose the series.

What do the 2012 Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles and 2011 St. Louis Cardinals have in common.  Two of the three teams had inferior talent and a much, much  smaller payroll than the Rangers (less than half), and all three were MUCH better managed than the Texas Rangers.

The Epic Rangers collapse in 2012 went down as the greatest division lead collapse in MLB history.  The World Series collapse of 2011 is arguably the greatest single team collapse in world series history.

Both the Rangers Manager and the players make too many mistakes and shrug them off.

Too many base runners picked off, too many errors on routine plays, too many horrible at bats, too many moronic manager moves and lack quality management game management throughout the season.

The players no longer police themselves and Ron Washington is not capable of policing them. Washington was hired by the Rangers when Tom Hicks bank account was running on empty.  The Rangers needed a manager to run the team on the cheap.

Washington got lucky when both the new ownership and the team had his back, no matter what he said or did.  The players hated Buck Showalter and went out of their way to insure that players manager, Wash keep his job.  The ownership took the PC road and gave Wash a pass after he tested positive for cocaine use.

The Rangers have one of the top General Managers in baseball.  Jon Daniels gave Wash Jurickson Profar and Mike Olt, two of the top prospects in all of baseball, but Washington didn’t take advantage of them.  Instead Wash stuck with washed up Michael Young, saying that if the ship sank with Young as captain, he’s going down with it. Man the lifeboats!

The ship went down slowly and painfully over the last ten games. See the movie Titanic for details.

In a world infected by PC, I can’t help but wonder if Ron Washington looked more like George Bush than Barack Obama, would he be on the beach with Bobby Valentine before sundown today?

When the Red Sox, a team with high expectations, suffered a meltdown in 2011 it cost Terry Francona, who won Boston TWO World Series Championships, his job.  When the Red Sox continued to decline in 2012, Bobby Valentine was fired less than 12 hours after the last game of the season and less than 12 months after he was hired.

Washington biggest and most inexcusable mistake, his blind loyalty to Michael Young, is enough by itself to cost him his job.  Add his team management over September, especially the record collapse over the last ten games. Firing Wash is a no brainer in a PC free world because “That the way baseball go”. Or should I say, used to go.

But I have the feeling that Washington won’t be fired because we live in a world infected by the cancer of PC (Political Correctness for anyone who is as clueless as Wash).

I suspect that the Rangers will take the PC way out and fire hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh and base running coach Gary Pettis.  Josh Hamilton’s , once an addict, always an addict, smug face won’t ever be seen in a Rangers uniform again.  History will treat him as the sociopath, liar, that he is and will always be.  If you trust an addict, you will always be disappointed.  I learned that lesson the hard way, just like the Rangers.

You can never do enough to help an addict and when they fall, it’s always somebody else’s fault.  Nothing is ever an addicts fault.  An addict will fuck up a two car funeral, because, well they can.  You hurt their feelings, or don’t kiss their ass for just one second or whatever… FUCK JOSH HAMILTION.  He fooled the masses but he never fooled the Wolf or anyone else who has lived with an addict. The Rangers enabled Josh Hamilton.

Other changes will come too.  The Rangers will try to trade Hamilton’s drinking buddy, Ian Kinsler but other teams want Elvis Andrus not him.  I want to trust Nolan Ryan and Jon Daniels.  They have built one of the best organizations in baseball.  The fans deserve better than Ron Washington and Josh Hamilton.

My faith will be restored if they do the right thing and cut ties with both.  If they don’t, than the Rangers are done in 2013 too.  Oh well, it’s NHL EPL Season.  How bout those Tottenham Hotspurs!
