Fort Worth Gun Show Report

As expected, there were no SW1911 Series E pistols to be found at the Fort Worth Gun Show.  Ditto for the Ruger SR1911.  Gun dealers have reported more Zombie sightings in north Texas than either of these 1911 pistols.

Tons of Glocks, including all the Generation 4 models, were on display.  Mrs. Wolf said I handled Glock model at the show at least once!  Most were not selling at bargain prices.  But there was one Glock 36 available for $475 out of the door.  I examined it closely and it looked new though it was pre-owned.

The owner was a vendor whose business is not selling Glocks but modifying them (night sights, springs, trigger jobs etc).  He had his personal Glock 36 at the Show to sell.  This was one of only of three Glock 36’s that we found today. One was tricked out in green with a laser for over $700.  The other was new in the box, unmodified, for almost $600.

This site consistently gets more hits on Glock 36 posts than any other topic. It surprises me that the pistol is not more popular at Gun Shows.  The Model 36 is the only slim line pistol that Glock currently manufactures.  It holds the same amount of rounds (7/8) than the 1911 and is almost as slim, weighing much less.  A Glock 36 loaded with 7 .45 ACP rounds is only 2 grams heavier than a Glock 26 loaded with 11 9mm rounds. You won’t find a more reliable pistol on earth than a low maintenance, plain Jane Glock.  A 1911 pistol is like a hot wife, expensive, high maintenance and more trouble than they’re worth.

One vendor had modified Remington Tactical 870 shotguns in about a dozen different configurations.  I took a long look at one, but decided to do some research before I purchased one.  The one I liked was $439.  I can buy a Remington 870 18.5 inch tactical 12 gauge shotgun for about $330.  The Walmart in my area actually sells that model, but they are currently out of stock.  The mod packages would cost me $75 on Amazon. So, $439 looks like a competitive price, with him doing the install. I really don’t need another home defense shotgun.  But I may go back next month, when the Gun Show returns to Mesquite during Spring Break (and March Madness). I’m usually in Las Vegas that week but I’m boycotting Nevada since Harry Reid killed the Universal Concealed Carry bill in the Senate. So I’ll spend my money in Texas, on a FIREARM instead of going to Las Vegas.

A Stevens Savage Arms Model 77E pump action 12 gauge currently protects the Wolf compound.  I purchased this from another Customs agent years ago.  This model was made manufactured prior to 1968 and is the civilian version of the military 77E carried by “point man” in Vietnam. Over 69,000 were produced for military use in Southeast Asia during the 1960’s.

Even though we didn’t purchase any new firearms today, we did manage to spend money at the Show.  We purchased a nice range bag and a Sig P238 leather pocket holster.  Both are quality locally made products, sold at a discount.  Also picked up got a Glock (17,19,26) 33 round magazine to carry in the truck. I can’t think of any better way to store thirty three 9mm rounds at the ready.

You know what they say, better to have a 33 round magazine and not use it than to need a 33 round magazine and not have it!  Besides, it was $20 less than a Sig P238 XT magazine which, holds just one more round than the standard 6 round .380 mag.

Looking forward to the next Fort Worth Gun Show on St. Patrick’s Day.  As Hickok45 says, “life is good”.
