HSI Agents Shot in Petaluma California Operation

Three HSI special agents have been injured in a Homeland Security Investigations operation in Petaluma, California according to media reports. The incident occurred hours after an ICE agent was fatally shot in Carson, CA in what authorities say was a domestic dispute.  The victim’s 14-year-old son has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Dozens of officers from multiple agencies have gathered in a parking lot on South McDowell Boulevard. Police said Homeland Security Investigations agents were conducting an operation and shots were fired.

Witnesses told ABC7 News in San Jose that at least one officer was airlifted from the scene. People are being asked to stay away from the area of South McDowell and McNeil Drive.

The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that Immigration the HSI agents’ injuries are not life threatening and one person was taken into custody at the scene.

Federal, state and local police launched a large scale gang sweep this morning in the region in connection with a 2010 triple homicide in South San Francisco, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

Up to 200 agents were supposed to serve warrants at no fewer than 12 locations, the source said. The raids focused on gangs whose members gunned down three rivals as they walked on Eighth Lane on Dec. 22, 2010, as well as those who helped obstruct the police investigation, the source said.
