Every Day is Saturday Except for Sunday

Coming up on four years since I walked off the job and became my own boss.  I love this job. It was well worth the 32 year wait.

Hardly a week goes by that I don’t hear from somebody still on the job.  Most are reporting more about the culture of waste, fraud and mismanagement at ICE, aka HSI.

I seldom write about it because it’s not news, it’s the norm. Double dipping managers who retire on Friday and come back with full pay and pension (no offset) on Monday is a common theme on many of the emails.  Fearing retaliation (rightly so), agents don’t contact their elective representatives but hope a blog like this can get the word out.  I’m sorry to inform you, that Congress is well aware of this practice. HSI doesn’t hide it from Congress. In fact they told Congress they needed to do this and get approval.

Did they lie? Of course they did.  Is Congress going to do anything about it. Of course not.

For what it’s worth, here’s my ICE advice for the year.  Don’t worry about it.  There’s nothing you or I can do about it.  ICE problems aren’t low on the radar, they are off the radar.  Find a way to go along to get along or get out. Life is too short to be miserable for 25-30 years.

But be careful if you’re thinking of switching agencies. They all suck. You have to learn to make your own happiness.  Jobs are called “work” for a reason.

The economy is bad and will be for years.  Think of the lost decade in Japan. Job #1 is keeping A job. See the dirty dozen Secret Service agents for details.  6c pay and benefits are better than the rest of the G.  The retirement is excellent.  Find a hobby. Enjoy life. Don’t let the man get you down.

It’s up to you not your lame GS or ASAC or SAC.  Figure it out. PT Time. Pass on the poison chicken.

Have a good day.
