Compare that to the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex with a population of 7 million. The Texas-Oklahoma border on the Red River is less than 100 miles from anywhere in the DFW metroplex.

As many of my regular readers and Twitter followers know, I am very fond of the my neighbors and Patriots in the Great State of Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the ONLY state in the country where both McCain and Romney defeated Obama in every single country in the state. Oklahoma, home of the Crimson and Cream is the most Red State in our nation.

Yesterday afternoon around 3pm, an enormous tornado roared through Cleveland County and Oklahoma County, killing at least 51 people, including 20 children. There are still 24 third grade children missing from an elementary school that took a direct hit from the EF5 tornado.

Governor Perry immediately deployed three Texas Task Force Rescue Teams, including canines, to assist our neighbors in Oklahoma.

The twister pulverized entire city blocks, left behind miles of mangled cars and splintered wood, and destroyed Plaza Towers Elementary School where seven children were found dead before nightfall.

Crews frantically searched the wreckage and were only beginning to get a sense of the destruction when night fell hours later. Officials warned the death toll could climb. At one hospital, 85 patients, including 65 children, were being treated for minor to critical injuries.

“The whole city looks like a debris field,” said Mayor Glenn Lewis of the city of Moore, which was hardest hit.

Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grade were evacuated to a church, but students in lower grades had sheltered in place, KFOR reported. More than two hours after the tornado struck, several children were pulled out alive.

The twister was a mile wide at its base, according to The Weather Channel, and a reporter for KFOR said the tornado kicked up a cloud of debris perhaps two miles wide. The National Weather Service initially classified the storm as an EF4, the second-strongest type, with winds of 166 to 200 mph. However, the storm may be upgraded to an EF5, after further evaluation today. Less than 1% (.05%) of tornados are rated EF4 or EF5, but those storms account for 90% of injuries and fatalities resulting from the storms.

The tornado struck at mid-afternoon and tore a 20-mile path, said Rick Smith, another weather service meteorologist. He said it was on the ground for 40 minutes. Much of the storm’s rampage was captured on live television, perhaps alerting people in its path to seek shelter.

You can help our neighbors and fellow patriots immediately by donating to the following organizations, which are already providing help on the ground:

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief
This organization says donations will “go straight to help those in need providing tree removal services, laundry services and meals to victims of disasters.”

Community support for the school has been overwhelming since they voted to allow licensed and trained teachers and administrators to carry a firearm on campus back in January.

Any employee that decides to carry a firearm in the school must also complete crisis intervention training and a hostage situation management course.

Which sign would you rather see at your child’s school?

In 1982, a suburb of Atlanta passed a law requiring heads of households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate subsequently dropped 89% in Kennesaw, compared to the modest 10.4% drop in Georgia as a whole.

Ten years later (1991), the residential burglary rate in Kennesaw was still 72% lower than it had been in 1981, before the law was passed.

74% of felons polled agreed that “one reason burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot during the crime.

57% of felons polled agreed that “criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running into the police.

Concealed carry laws are dropping crime rates across the country. Gun Free Zones are the most dangerous places in America.

Currently, no major firearms manufacturers produce handguns for sale that are equipped with micro-stamp technology.

Guns already on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale in California ,will be illegal to sell within three years. Handgun certification in California expires after three years. Manufacturers must submit a new application every three years. Effective immediately, no handgun will be approved for sale in California unless it contains useless yet expensive micro-stamp technology.

So in three years, it will be illegal to sell a new handgun in California that is not equipped with micro-stamping. Still think that Democrats are not out to ban firearms? Democrats have a super majority in the California legislature and control every branch of the state government.

The long term goal of all new gun control legislation at both the federal and state level is a ban on civilian ownership/possession of firearms with the exception of some two shot hunting shotguns and single shot rifles.

California has continued to add requirements to in effect eliminate the sale of handguns. Before micro-stamping, the most recent added requirement was the inclusion of magazine disconnect devices to prevent guns from firing with a round in the chamber if the magazine is removed. Few manufacturers have complied already making most new handguns unavailable in California.

Now the few handguns that meet the other requirements must include microstamping to be included on the roster of certified handguns available for sale in California.

This is an obvious back door ban on all handguns in California, which is unconstitutional (Supreme Court decision District of Columbia v. Heller). Since no handguns are produced with micro-stamping, California is banning the “type (of guns) in common use”, which is clear violation of Second Amendment civil rights.

If available, micro-stamping would not help to solve crimes. It’s easily defeated, easily wears out and can be used to produce false leads because the serial numbers can be easily altered, firing pins can be easily replaced and barrels can be swapped out in seconds. Micro-Stamping will have zero effect on all but he dumbest of criminals, who the cops already catch.

New gun control laws are never about public safety. They are always about banning guns and subverting the Second Amendment. We have the gun control laws than we need now. Most gun control laws are not enforced by the same progressives who are constantly tring to pass more. We oppose ALL new gun control legislation. PERIOD

Manufacturers will be unwilling to add this expensive feature to guns sold in a single state, and will instead keep manufacturing weapons for the other states, where demand already far exceeds supply. The effect, according to C.D. Michel, West Coast regional attorney for the NRA, is a ban on the sale of new semiautomatic handguns in California, which the NRA will challenge in court.

The legislation requires all handgun buyers to undergo safety training and submit fingerprints to obtain a license to purchase a pistol or revolver. Concealed carry licenses are not issued in Maryland unless you are politically connected with Progressive politicians who control the liberal fascist state.

It new law bans the sale of 45 types of firearms, including pistols, rifles and shotguns.

The new law also reduces magazine capacity from 20 rounds to 10 rounds.

Maryland joins Connecticut and New York in expanding assault weapons bans and restricting the capacity of magazines in 2013.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has announced plans to challenge the new state gun control laws in court.

Republican State Assembly Delegate Neil Parrott said last month that leading opponents of the Maryland bill planned to back an NRA lawsuit, rather than petition for a referendum.

A Maryland woman, Sue Payne, has also launched a campaign to petition the bill to a referendum, filing paperwork with the board of elections last month.

Other features of the bill include mandatory reporting of lost or stolen firearms. Failure to timely report lost or stolen firearms will result in your arrest and prosecution in Maryland.

The law also strengthens the state’s ability to regulate harass gun dealers.

I lived in Maryland from 1976-77 and attended the University of Maryland while working for the Uniformed Secret Service. I lived in Prince George County, which is now one of the most dangerous urban areas in the country. If you have seen The Wire, then you know Baltimore.

I feel for the law abiding gun owners in Eastern and Western Maryland. You are in the same situation as upstate New Yorkers and many Californians who live far from the coast. But this is what happens when Democrats control all branches of government. The courts is your only hope and we all know the lawsuits will take years to be resolved.

Of course the new law will do nothing to keep criminals from using guns and high capacity magazines to faciltate their crime. The new law is intended to turn law abiding citizens into criminals. The new law will make it more difficult and expensive for law abiding citizens to protect themselves against the many violent criminals and gang bangers who populate Maryland. See Chicago for the effects of strict gun control laws on criminal behavor.

Armed citizens kill more crooks than the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606). Newsweek a member of the progressive propaganda machine, reported that “only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, is 11 percent, more than five times as high.”

He would soon use it on one of the intruders, exchanging gunfire and sending the man to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, Houston police said.

The resident told police he was upstairs at the home in the 8200 block of Braeburn Valley Drive, south of Houston Baptist University, when three men kicked in the front door about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The intruders attacked him and placed him in a closet, so they could ransack the home, said Sgt. Jerri Brandon with the Houston Police Department.

When he thought the intruders were gone, the man left the closet, armed with a gun that he kept there, he told police.

Downstairs, he encountered one of the men and the two exchanged gunfire, police said.

The resident, who lives at the home with his parents, was not injured.

1 wounded, others flee

The intruder, who appeared to be in his 20s, was shot in the shoulder and leg. He ran down the street and collapsed, police said.

The other two men fled in an older model Chevrolet Tahoe, police said. The homeowner told police that he did not know the attackers.

Craig Gaddis, who lives three houses down, said he heard three shots and walked out to find a man sprawled out on a nearby sidewalk. Another neighbor who also walked out called 911.

Gaddis, a shipping and receiving consultant who owns several handguns, said thieves kicked in the door on a nearby home about a week ago and burglars hit another home around the corner about three weeks ago.

“With what’s happening, my neighbors and I are aware they’re all connected,” Gaddis, 45, said of the break-ins. “What happened today is exactly what guns are supposed to do - to protect your home and defend your life and your family.”

Guns used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year — or about 6,850 times a day. 1 This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.

Of the 2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun to scare off their attackers. An armed citizen kills or wounds an attacker Less than 8% of the time that they produce a firearm in a self defense situation.

So any gun is better than no gun. Get training. Get your concealed carry permit and get a handgun that you will never leave home without. If you’re not going to carry the gun, it’s not going to do you or your loved ones any good.

I suggest installing a simple but secure gun vault lock box in your vehicle to store your handgun before entering any”gun free zones”.

If you are a first time gun buyer, do some research. There are tons of excellent personal defense handguns available for $400-$500. Price will vary depending on where you live and what retail outlets are in your area. If you live in an area that has Academy Sports and Outdoors, check them out for good selection and very competitive prices. Bud’s Online has a good reputation with some of the most competitive prices found. But keep in mind that the gun will have to be shipped to an FFL for processing. The FFL transfer fee usually runs between $24-50 for online transfers.

We live in the golden age of handguns. If you are overwhelmed and just can’t decide, I’m comfortable recommending a Glock Model 19 9mm. safe action pistol (any generation) as your first handgun. It’s a versatile handgun that comes with two standard 15 round magazines in most states. It’s a mid-size handgun, which is technically a compact model that falls between the full size Glock 17 and sub-compact Glock 26.

Any Striker fired pistols similar to the Glock 19 would make a good choice for a self defense handgun. I recommend that every gun owner have a striker fired 9mm handgun in their inventory. Glock striker fired handguns are similar to Smith and Wesson M&P pistols , Springfield XD pistols , the Ruger SR9 series and my new favorite compact 9mm handgun, the Walther PPQ .

I didn’t mention Sig Sauer, also known as Sig Arms, which is an excellent firearms manufacturer. There used to be two kinds of gun guys, either Glock guys or Sig guys. Basically, it was a “striker fire” or “hammer fire” preference. Today, many gun owners own both Sig and Glock handguns along with many other manufacturers, including Beretta . As I mentioned earlier, we are living in the Golden Age of Handguns.

Sig Sauer makes excellent premium firearms . I’ve found that a striker fired pistol is usually the best choice for shooters with limited training and experience. But if you are a traditionalist, who wants a hammer fired handgun, you may want to check out Sig Sauer. The most popular premium models, start around $700. Sig is now manufacturing an entry line of hammer fired pistols ( P250’s & SP2022 models). I don’t have any experience with those models. I’ve seen them in north Texas Academy Sports and Outdoors for $430/$460.

I don’t recommend single action, 1911 style pistols as primary self defense “fighting” pistols for new shooters and those with limited shooting experience. However, 1911’s are still great guns. The original Model 1911 was invented by John Browning in 1911. They are as popular as ever, more than 100 years after being introduced as the classic American .45ACP pistol. Every American gun owner should consider adding a modern 1911 to their firearms inventory.

I enjoy shooting modern 1911 pistols, which are some of the most accurate pistols you will find. But 1911 style single action pistols require more training and care than revolvers and safe action striker fired pistols.

I don’t recommend buying a cheap semi-auto pistols. Any firearm that comes with only a one year limited warranty is junk. Sig Sauer, Glock, Ruger, Springfield, S&W, Beretta, Walther all offer Limited Lifetime Warranties that cover just about anything that goes wrong with your firearm. All of these major manufacturers have excellent customer service and will fix the problem should your gun have one or develop one in the future. Guns are machines and like any machine they can break.

If you buy a gun from Academy Sports and Outdoors, they wills ship it back to the manufacturer for warranty work at no cost to you. Most of the manufacturers will send you a pre-paid shipping label for warranty repair if you contact their customer service.

You need to train and practice with your handgun. A concealed carry handgun class is not sufficient training for new and inexperienced shooters.

If you decide to join the growing group of licensed concealed carry handgun permit holders, who carry a firearm for self defense, I recommend that you:

1.) Beef up your ammo reserves. “A lot more rounds are being exchanged in today’s gunfights than in the past. Carry more ammo. Consider having both a primary and a backup gun. I can’t express how quickly your firearm will go empty when you’re shooting for real. There’s no worse feeling than pulling the trigger and hearing it go ‘click’.”

2.) Practice head shots. “When you fire multiple ‘lethal’ rounds into an attacker and he keeps going, you don’t have the luxury of waiting 20 or 40 more seconds for him to die while he can still shoot at you. Don’t waste time arguing the relative merits of various calibers. No handgun rounds have reliable stopping power with body shots. Pick the round you can shoot best and practice shooting at the assailant’s head.

In fact, the vast majority of defensive handgun stops are psychological not physiological. Police officers are trained not to give up when they are shot because the vast majority of gun shot wounds are survivable.

If you are involved in a gun fight, you absolutely, positively must have enough rounds to neutralize your attacker. If you run out of ammo before you neutralize the threat, you will die. If you are shot and you are able to continue returning fire, the odds of surviving are with you.

I rather be tried by twelve than carried by six. The castle doctrine is the foundation of a civilized society. Under no circumstances would I limit a home defense firearm to seven rounds, which is the law in New York.

If someone is desperate enough to break into your occupied home, your castle, the place where you should be as safe as any place on earth, they may very well continue a gun fight after suffering bullet wounds. You can never have too many rounds in a gun fight. But having too few will cost you and your love ones their lives.

A home defense weapon should be equipped with a magazine that holds a minimum of 17 rounds. I prefer 30. Make sure you have at least one fully loaded spare magazine with your firearm at all times.

Organized Home Invasions are increasing every year in the United States, especially in densely populated states like New Jersey. Home invasions usually involve multiple attackers, coming into the home from at least two different entry points.

You have a God given, constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms and protect yourself from felonious attack. Here’s a case where 47 rounds of .45ACP was not enough to neutralize a single attacker.

Before the call that changed Sergeant Timothy Gramins’ life forever, he typically carried 47 rounds of handgun ammunition on his person while on duty.

Today, he carries 145, “every day, without fail.”

He detailed the gunfight that caused the difference in a gripping presentation at the annual conference of the Assn. of SWAT Personnel-Wisconsin.

At the core of his desperate firefight was a murderous attacker who simply would not go down, even though he was shot 14 times with .45-cal. ammunition — six of those hits in supposedly fatal locations.

The most threatening encounter in Gramins’ nearly two-decade career with the Skokie (Ill.) PD north of Chicago came on a lazy August afternoon prior to his promotion to sergeant, on his first day back from a family vacation. He was about to take a quick break from his patrol circuit to buy a Star Wars game at a shopping center for his son’s eighth birthday.

An alert flashed out that a male black driving a two-door white car had robbed a bank at gunpoint in another suburb 11 miles north and had fled in an unknown direction. Gramins was only six blocks from a major expressway that was the most logical escape route into the city.

Unknown at the time, the suspect, a 37-year-old alleged Gangster Disciple, had vowed that he would kill a police officer if he got stopped.

“I’ve got a horseshoe up my ass when it comes to catching suspects,” Gramins laughs. He radioed that he was joining other officers on the busy expressway lanes to scout traffic.

He was scarcely up to highway speed when he spotted a lone male black driver in a white Pontiac Bonneville and pulled alongside him. “He gave me ‘the Look,’ that oh-crap-there’s-the-police look, and I knew he was the guy,” Gramins said.

Gramins dropped behind him. Then in a sudden, last-minute move the suspect accelerated sharply and swerved across three lanes of traffic to roar up an exit ramp. “I’ve got one running!” Gramins radioed.

The next thing he knew, bullets were flying. “That was four years ago,” Gramins said. “Yet it could be ten seconds ago.”

With Gramins following close behind, siren blaring and lights flashing, the Bonneville zigzagged through traffic and around corners into a quite pocket of single-family homes a few blocks from the exit. Then a few yards from where a 10-year-old boy was skateboarding on a driveway, the suspect abruptly squealed to a stop.

“He bailed out and ran headlong at me with a 9 mm Smith in his hand while I was still in my car,” Gramins said.

The gunman sank four rounds into the Crown Vic’s hood while Gramins was drawing his .45-cal. Glock 21.

“I didn’t have time to think of backing up or even ramming him,” Gramins said. “I see the gun and I engage.”

Gramins fired back through his windshield, sending a total of 13 rounds tearing through just three holes.

A master firearms instructor and a sniper on his department’s Tactical Intervention Unit, “I was confident at least some of them were hitting him, but he wasn’t even close to slowing down,” Gramins said.

The gunman shot his pistol dry trying to hit Gramins with rounds through his driver-side window, but except for spraying the officer’s face with glass, he narrowly missed and headed back to his car.

Gramins, also empty, escaped his squad — “a coffin,” he calls it — and reloaded on his run to cover behind the passenger-side rear of the Bonneville.

Now the robber, a lanky six-footer, was back in the fight with a .380 Bersa pistol he’d grabbed off his front seat. Rounds flew between the two as the gunman dashed toward the squad car.

Again, Gamins shot dry and reloaded.

“I thought I was hitting him, but with shots going through his clothing it was hard to tell for sure. This much was certain: he kept moving and kept shooting, trying his damnedest to kill me.”

In this free-for-all, the assailant had, in fact, been struck 14 times. Any one of six of these wounds — in the heart, right lung, left lung, liver, diaphragm, and right kidney — could have produced fatal consequences…“in time,” Gramins emphasizes.

But time for Gramins, like the stack of bullets in his third magazine, was fast running out.

In his trunk was an AR-15; in an overhead rack inside the squad, a Remington 870.

But reaching either was impractical. Gramins did manage to get himself to a grassy spot near a tree on the curb side of his vehicle where he could prone out for a solid shooting platform.

The suspect was in the street on the other side of the car. “I could see him by looking under the chassis,” Gramins recalls. “I tried a couple of ricochet rounds that didn’t connect. Then I told myself, ‘Hey, I need to slow down and aim better.’ ”

When the suspect bent down to peer under the car, Gramins carefully established a sight picture, and squeezed off three controlled bursts in rapid succession.

Each round slammed into the suspect’s head — one through each side of his mouth and one through the top of his skull into his brain. At long last the would-be cop killer crumpled to the pavement.

The whole shootout had lasted 56 seconds, Gramins said. The assailant had fired 21 rounds from his two handguns. Inexplicably — but fortunately — he had not attempted to employ an SKS semi-automatic rifle that was lying on his front seat ready to go.

Gramins had discharged 33 rounds. Four remained in his magazine.

Two houses and a parked Mercedes in the vicinity had been struck by bullets, but with no casualties. The young skateboarder had run inside yelling at his dad to call 911 as soon as the battle started and also escaped injury. Despite the fusillade of lead sent his way, Gramins’ only damage besides glass cuts was a wound to his left shin. His dominant emotion throughout his brush with death, he recalls, was “feeling very alone, with no one to help me but myself.”

Remarkably, the gunman was still showing vital signs when EMS arrived. Sheer determination, it seemed, kept him going, for no evidence of drugs or alcohol was found in his system.

He was transported to a trauma center where Gramins also was taken. They shared an ER bay with only a curtain between them as medical personnel fought unsuccessfully to save the robber’s life.

At one point Gramins heard a doctor exclaim, “We may as well stop. Every bag of blood we give him ends up on the floor. This guy’s like Swiss cheese. Why’d that cop have to shoot him so many times!”

Gramins thought, “He just tried to kill me! Where’s that part of it?”

When Gramins was released from the hospital, “I walked out of there a different person,” he said.

“Being in a shooting changes you. Killing someone changes you even more.” As a devout Catholic, some of his changes involved a deepening spirituality and philosophical reflections, he said without elaborating.

At least one alteration was emphatically practical.

Before the shooting, Gramins routinely carried 47 rounds of handgun ammo on his person, including two extra magazines for his Glock 21 and 10 rounds loaded in a backup gun attached to his vest, a 9 mm Glock 26.

Now unfailingly he goes to work carrying 145 handgun rounds, all 9 mm. These include three extra 17-round magazines for his primary sidearm (currently a Glock 17), plus two 33-round mags tucked in his vest, as well as the backup gun. Besides all that, he’s got 90 rounds for the AR-15 that now rides in a rack up front.

Paranoia?

Gramins shook his head and said “Preparation.”

Dean Jr., 31, of Hopewell Junction, around 9:45 p.m. Sunday on Route 22 because the vehicle’s license-plate lamp was not working. While interviewing Dean, troopers noticed a handgun on the front seat, partially covered by a sweatshirt. The troopers determined the gun, a .40-caliber pistol, was legally registered and possessed. However …

when the troopers inspected the pistol, its magazine contained the nine bullets – New York’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act only allows seven bullets per magazine.

The Troopers charged Dean with unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. They’re misdemeanors, but if convicted he will lose his gun rights.

This is not going to play well in Poughkeepsie. Or any of the free states like Texas. TheBlaze.com picked up the story last night and I’ve seen it all over Zite. Judging by the comments underneath the posts, there is little love for NY’s SAFE Act. This thing is headed for an interesting court fight.

Law Enforcement can take a gun off a legally armed citizen to protect their safety, but what gives them the right to do an illegal search of a magazine without a search warrant. Does New York disregard all the Bill of Rights? Are you New Yorkers subject to the Constitution or the Queen like Canada?

This incident is going to put magazine capacity limits back in the spotlight, which is a good thing. These laws only have no effect on criminals and crazies. Their only purpose is to turn law abiding gun owners into criminals and take away their right to keep and bear arms.

The clock is ticking on mandatory “assault rifle” registration in the Empire State, which goes into affect on April 15, 2014.

If you live in New York, your safety has been compromised by the Progressives. That shit would never float in Texas, Utah, Arizona or any other state worth living in. Get the F out of the Empire State before this happens to you:

DHS and other federal agencies are NOT the problem with suppy. Since Moby Dick was a minnow the feds have been buying and shooting millions of rounds of ammo a year. Federal agents qualify with high quality carry ammo four times a year. The feds only shoot what they carry. Each agent can easily shoot 1,000+ rounds during their annual training and practice sessions.

The feds don’t by .22LR and buy a tiny amount of 9mm since most agents now carry .40S&W and .357SIG handguns. In fact, the ammo that DHS buys has never been sold by Walmart, Academy Sports or any other popular retail outlet.

The Internet is filled with stories about the Department of Homeland Security allegedly buying 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. The feds are buying ammunition lots of ammo as they always have but not that much and not all at once.

DHS has a contract to buy up to 750 million rounds of ammo over the next five years. That ammo is for 90 federal agencies to use at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.

A separate five-year contract allows DHS to buy up to 450 million rounds of ammo for federal law enforcement agents like the Secret Service, Border Border, Customs, ICE and Homeland Security Investigations and the Coast Guard. These agencies employ about 100,000 law enforcement personnel.

If you add it up, the government contracts are for up to 1.2 billion rounds. But that’s the ceiling and doesn’t mean that’s how much the government will buy. Plus, it’s spread out over the next five years.

In fact, over the last three years DHS has actually purchased fewer rounds of ammunition each year. The number of rounds purchased has fallen from 148.3 million in fiscal 2010 to 103.2 million rounds in 2012.

The federal government is combining several contracts and basically buying in bulk “to leverage the purchasing power of the entire Department to efficiently procure equipment and supplies at significantly lower costs.” Again, this has been going on since at least 1976 when I started working for the Secret Service, which like Customs was under the Department of the Treasury and have now been moved to DHS.

One of major government suppliers of ammo is Federal Premium Ammunition. A statement on the company’s website says the DHS contract “…makes up a very small percentage of our total ammunition output. This contract is not taking ammunition away from civilians.”

A spokesman for the ammo maker says “The current increase in demand is attributed to the civilian market. Our production volumes on government contracts have been stable since the mid-2000s.”

I’ve been following the gun, ammo and magazine shortage since Sandy Hook. There are a number of factors, including tens of millions of new gun owners since 2008 (when Obama was elected) and the progressive agenda, which keeps gun control in the daily news, that are causing the shortage.

The primary cause of the current civilian ammo shortage is GREED. “Truck Greeters” stand on line for hours waiting at Walmart, Academy Sports and other large retailers, and they buy up the supply, 3 boxes at a time. As the line grows, more ammo goes and the supply is diminished in 15-30 minutes.

The ammo that the Truck Greeters are buying up is not being shot, it’s being re-sold at a 500-1,000% mark-up. Popular .22LR which was selling for .03-.05 cents a round in 2012 is being routinely resold online, at gun shows and in flea markets for .35+ cents a round. Do the math.

Since Obama was elected in 2008 about 75 million new guns have been sold to civilians in the United States. You can find guns and magazines but you can’t find ammo unless you are willing to stand in line for hours or pay premium prices. Yes, it’s price gouging but it’s not illegal.

The bottom line is the problem is not the government, it’s the gun community, specifically a greedy few who are buying up all the ammo and selling it for 5 to 10 times the amount they purchased it for at Walmart.

I believe a significant portion of this ammo is making it’s way to small retailer and large online sellers. It’s a “Dirty” little secret. Look no further than Glen Beck’s radio show and the Sportsman Channel to find one of the most greedy culprits. They’re selling millions of rounds, but believe me, it ain’t “Cheap”.

It’s true that the gun and ammo manufacturers have raised their prices, but the rise is closer to 10% or less, not 1000%. They are both working overtime, having adding shifts to meet demand. But demand is not going to be met until the supply side can be replenished.

Every round that arrives at every retail outlet is gone within an hour. The ammo is then marked up and sold to desperate buyers at 500+% premium. There’s a simple solution to this problem. STOP BUYING AMMO.

If you are down to zero and can’t load your guns, find some ammo this month. BUT THEN STOP BUYING AMMO. If you don’t have a gun, buy it this month and find one box of ammo before June 1.

If nobody purchases a single round of ammo during the month of June, the retailers will be able to re-stock their supply and the shelves will be full on July 1. The greedy truck greeters will be forced to lower their prices in July to compete. By August 1, the supply problem would be solved. Of course higher prices are not going away. But 10-20% is a lot better than 500-1000% if I remember my grade school math correctly.

Of course the ammo boycott is not going to happen and the problem is going to continue. But at some point the market will correct. Unfortunately, it’s going to cost more as manufacturers and suppliers will continue to raise their prices. You can thank the greedy truck greeters for this next time you show up at Walmart and see more than a dozen of them waiting in line for the 7 o’clock truck!

When it comes to the ammo shortage, we have identified the enemy, and the enemy is us. Greedy gun guys are the problem. A June ammo buying boycott is the solution.

Their supposed rationale for such legislation is to reduce accidental shootings and the criminal use of guns against innocents.

But if harm reduction is the goal, progressives should pause to consider how many crimes—murders, rapes, assaults, robberies—are thwarted by ordinary persons who were fortunate enough to have access to a gun. Gun control proponents cannot deny that people use guns successfully against criminals, but they tend to play down how often such events take place.

Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year — or about 6,850 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.

Criminals will often flee the scene when they discover that their intended target has a gun. With no shots fired, no injuries, and no suspect in custody, news organizations never report it. It’s important to remember that news reports only provide us with an imperfect picture of defensive gun use in America.

When a citizen is able to shoot an attacker or hold a rapist or robber until the police arrive, it is very likely that more than one crime has been prevented because if the culprit had not been stopped, he would have targeted countless other citizens as well.

We will never change gun banners. Their goal is disarmament of law abiding citizens not public safety.

Police investigate significantly more crime than they stop. We the people are the first responders.
The bottom line is that gun owners stop more criminal mayhem every year than law enforcement officers.

A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves…and include all men capable of bearing arms…To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the people always posses arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them…The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle. -Melancton Smith, Additional Letters From The Federal Farmer, 1788.
