The California Department of Justice recently announced it expects state residents will buy over 700,000 pistols, rifles and shotguns in 2012.
According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, that means firearm sales this year will nearly double from five years ago, when 370,628 weapons were sold.
Gun sales in Colorado jumped significantly in the days after the shooting. I’ve seen news reports saying that in addition to a surge in California sales, Florida, Washington, Oregon, and Georgia also have reported increases in gun purchases this year.
According to the far left Chronicle, our state “doesn’t record the personal history of those who purchase guns, nor their reasons for buying them, so it’s hard to pinpoint a reason for the increase.” I know that chaps the Chronicle’s ass!
Sales typically increase in large numbers after incidents like 9/11 and the Colorado shooting. One gun store owner quoted by the Chronicle spoke about new customers drawn to arming themselves after personally feeling the effects of crime.
“The police aren’t there to save you,” argued the owner. “They’re there to clean up the mess and make a report after the fact. There aren’t enough police to protect civilians - there just isn’t.”
California, New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, Hawaii, New York, Massachusetts, Delaware and Connecticut are the nine most restrictive gun rights states in the country along with the District of Columbia. Illinois an D.C. ban both open and concealed carry of handguns for anyone except law enforcement officers.
Unlike Illinois and D.C., you may be able to obtain a concealed carry permit in some cities an counties in California. California is a huge state. The Sheriff or Chief of Police issues concealed carry permits in California, which are generally valid throughout the state.
Contact your county’s Sheriff’s Office or, if you are a resident of an incorporated city, your city’s Police Department, for information on obtaining a CCW license, if you live in one of the green counties. They can answer your questions and provide you with copies of their CCW policy statement and the State’s Standardized CCW Application. If you live within a jurisdiction of a city Police Department, you may apply to the county Sheriff’s Office for a CCW license. However, only residents of a city may apply to a city’s Police Department for a CCW license.
It’s difficult to believe but California gave us Ronald Reagan. Mrs. Wolf is a lifelong conservative and Second Amendment civil rights supporter. She was born in southern California and still supports the hated Angels!
Due to illegal immigration, the financial clout of the entertainment industry, and the culture of socialism in both northern and southern population centers, California politics is controlled by the far left. But there are millions of patriots living in the state.
Playing poker in Las Vegas for many years, I regularly met many Libertarians and conservatives from California. There is hope for the west coast. It’s an uphill battle, but California gun owners are increasing. Now is the time to get politically active and work to protect and preserve the rights you have. Work to win back the second amendment rights and freedoms that California has take from law abiding citizens. Forty one states stand behind you and more will be added over the next few years.
CALGUNS.NET is the home of California gun owners working together to reclaim Second Amendment civil rights and freedom in the land of the fruits and the nuts. Wake up California!
Gun control defined: The theory that people who are willing to ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder will obey a law which prohibits them from owning a firearm
